For junior Alex Thompson, choosing the University of Sioux Falls was about more than finding a school—it was about finding a place to grow, serve, and lead.

“From the first campus visit, I knew this was different,” Alex says. “People held doors open. Professors stopped to say hi. It felt like home.”

Purpose Beyond the Classroom

Alex is deeply involved in campus ministry and recently completed a service-learning trip to Guatemala organized through USF’s global engagement program.

“Faith and service aren’t just side activities here—they’re woven into everything we do,” Alex explains. “I’ve learned how to lead with both humility and conviction.”

Advice for Future Cougars

When asked what makes USF special, Alex doesn’t hesitate.

“It’s the people. You’re not just another student. You’re part of a community that challenges you, supports you, and helps you find your calling.”

Now preparing for an internship with a regional nonprofit, Alex feels ready to bring both business skills and servant leadership into the real world.

“USF has helped me become more confident in who I am—and more hopeful about the kind of difference I can make.”
